Spiced Jerky Tacos

Share

Ingredients

  • 8 – 10 corn or flour tortillas (store-bought or homemade)
  • 1 cup sliced beef jerky (you can choose your favourite flavour, but we suggest our DJays chilli jerky for some spicy warmth)
  • Taco seasoning
  • 2 cups shredded lettuce (Iceberg is best)
  • 1 cup diced tomatoes
  • 1 cup shredded cheese (cheddar, tasty cheese, Havarti – the choice is up to you)
  • 1 avocado, diced

For serving (these are optional and you can use condiments of your choice)

  • Sour cream (can substitute with plain, unsweetened yoghurt)
  • Hot sauce (check out our range of delicious extras which include the multi award-winning Dr Paul’s hot sauces)
  • Fresh coriander, chopped

Method

  • Prepare the toppings and condiments (diced tomatoes, shredded lettuce, sour cream, avo, coriander and hot sauce) and place into separate bowls.
  • Cut the beef jerky into bite-sized pieces (depending on the size of the original slices), sprinkle taco seasoning over pieces (adjust the amount of seasoning according to your personal preference) and place in a plan.
  • Heat the jerky over medium heat for a minute or two to release extra flavour, tossing frequently.
  • Remove jerky from pan and set aside to keep warm.
  • Heat a non-stick skillet or cast iron griddle over medium heat (a heavy pan is best as the tortillas are cooked ‘dry’)
  • Warm each tortilla for around 30 seconds each side until they are soft and pliable, stacking them in a clean tea towel to keep warm.

How to eat your jerky tacos

  • Place everything on the table (warm tortillas, warm jerky, hot sauce, condiments etc).
  • Take a tortilla, place a portion of the seasoned jerky in the bottom, then top with shredded lettuce, diced tomato, shredded cheese and extras of your choice.

Trust tacos to turn up the fun factor when it comes to mealtimes.  And this version brings a fresh and spicy new twist to an old favourite – so try these tasty jerky tacos today.  Enjoy!
